Hello, my name is Kaitlin Murtagh and I currently live in a small town just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I have been in the field of education since I graduated from the College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, New Jersey in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English and minors in writing and secondary education with a concentration in special education. I am currently enrolled in the Master of Arts in Education (MAED) program at Michigan State University.

Throughout my career I have enjoyed the opportunity to teach a diverse group of students including those with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), speech and hearing impairments, non-compliant behavior, psychiatric illness and mild learning disabilities. In my current role, I work with all of the school-aged patients seen at the New Jersey Section of Hematology/Oncology at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia to make sure that their educational goals are being met throughout the course of treatment for chronic and acute illness. My professional experiences have helped me blossom into a well-rounded and compassionate individual who takes each student's unique needs, goals and interests into account and creates effective lessons, activities, and school re-entry plans to accommodate them.

In my free time, I really enjoy being outdoors. I love to swim, hike, bike, camp, and go to the beach. Traveling is a passion of mine and it is a personal goal to visit every single state in the country. I have also done some traveling abroad. So far, I have been to England, Portugal, Barbados, and Amsterdam. I am hoping to add more countries to my list of travels and am incredibly excited about the possibility of traveling to Ghana, West Africa in July 2020. I also love to read and no matter how busy I am with work and school make it a priority to read for pleasure every single day. Above all of these things, however, spending time with my family and my friends means the most to me and I try to spend as much time with them as possible.

As a lifelong learner I strive to further develop the skills I have learned throughout my educational journey. I hope to incorporate the skills I have gained during my graduate work to further enhance my role in interdisciplinary collaboration, advocating for best practice strategies in the classroom, and implementing proactive psycho-educational programming into my daily practice so that I can continue to best serve the educational needs of the students I work with.

I am eager to learn with you, so let's connect!
